Test Procedure

  1. QD1 CARRY OUT A VEHICLE INSPECTION AND VERIFY THE SELF-TEST PROCEDURE 
    NOTE: If the self-test or communication concern occurred after a failed or aborted reprogram, the module may be blank. Attempt to reprogram the module again before continuing with this pinpoint test.
    • Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of electrical damage:
      • harness wiring
      • electrical connections
    • Verify the correct procedure was used to activate the self-test for the scan tool. Refer to SCAN TOOL SET-UP AND FUNCTIONALITY .

    Was the correct self-test procedure used? 

    Yes No
    GO to QD2  . REFER to SCAN TOOL SET-UP AND FUNCTIONALITY , to continue diagnosis.
  2. QD2 CARRY OUT THE NETWORK TEST 
    NOTE: When using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS), the scan tool attempts to communicate with the PCM first. After establishing communication with the PCM, the scan tool then attempts to communicate with all modules on the vehicle. If an IDS session cannot be established, IDS may state no communication can be established with the PCM:
    • Choose No when the scan tool prompts whether or not to retry communication.
    • Enter a PCM part number, tear tag or calibration number to identify the vehicle and start a session. The PCM part number and 4-character tear tag are located on the PCM.
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Carry out the network test.

    Do all modules indicate pass? 

    Yes No
    For DTCs U0100, U0401 or U1011, GO to  QD5.
    For DTC U010F, GO to  QD6.
    For DTCs U0111 or U0412, GO to  QD7.
    For DTCs U0121, U0418 or U1012, GO to  QD8.
    For DTCs U0140 or U0422, GO to  QD9.
    For DTCs U0151 or U0452, GO to  QD10.
    For DTC U0155, GO to  QD11.
    For DTCs U0164 or U0424, GO to  QD12.
    For DTC U016A, GO to  QD13.
    For DTC U0198, GO to  QD14.
    For DTC U019B, GO to  QD15.
    For DTCs U0235 or U0433, GO to  QD16.
    For DTC U0298, GO to  QD17.
    For all others, RETURN to ENGINE CONTROLS - SYMPTOM CHARTS (HYBRID) for further direction.
    If only the SOBDMC indicates fail, GO to QD3  .
    For network test or all other modules indicates fail, REFER to the Module Communications Network article, Communication Network Symptom Chart, to continue diagnosis.
  3. QD3 CHECK THE TCM VPWR CIRCUITS FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • TCM-A connector disconnected.
    • Connect a 5 amp fused jumper wire between the following:
      Point A TCM-A Connector, Harness Side Point B
      TCMRC - Pin 40 Ground
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Measure the voltage between:
      (+) TCM-A Connector, Harness Side (-)
      VPWR - Pin 10, 29, 9 Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 10.5 V? 

    Yes No
    GO to QD4  . GO to PINPOINT TEST BB .
  4. QD4 CHECK THE TCM GROUND CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      (+) TCM-A Connector, Harness Side (-)
      PWRGND - Pin 1, 2 Ground

    Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the Module Communications Network article, Communication Network Symptom Chart, to continue diagnosis. REPAIR the open circuit. Clear the SOBDMC DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. QD5 CHECK FOR A PCM CONCERN 
    • Check for any PCM DTCs.
    • Check for any other PCM related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    DISREGARD the current diagnostic trouble code (DTC) at this time. DIAGNOSE the next DTC. GO to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHARTS AND DESCRIPTIONS . GO to  QD18.
  6. QD6 CHECK FOR AN AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL MODULE (ACCM) CONCERN 
    • Check for any ACCM DTCs.
    • Check for any other ACCM related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the Climate Control System article to continue diagnosis. GO to  QD18.
  7. QD7 CHECK FOR A BATTERY ENERGY CONTROL MODULE (BECM) CONCERN 
    • Check for any BECM DTCs.
    • Check for any other BECM related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the High Voltage Converter/Inverter article to continue diagnosis. GO to  QD18.
  8. QD8 CHECK FOR AN ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE CONCERN 
    • Check for any ABS module DTCs.
    • Check for any other ABS related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control article to continue diagnosis. GO to  QD18.
  9. QD9 CHECK FOR A BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) CONCERN 
    • Check for any BCM DTCs.
    • Check for any other BCM related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the Multifunction Electronic Modules article to continue diagnosis. GO to  QD18.
  10. QD10 CHECK FOR A RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM) CONCERN 
    • Check for any RCM DTCs.
    • Check for any other RCM related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the Supplemental Restraint System article to continue diagnosis. GO to  QD18.
  11. QD11 CHECK FOR AN INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) MODULE CONCERN 
    • Check for any IPC module DTCs.
    • Check for any other IPC related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the Instrumentation, Message Center, and Warning Chimes article to continue diagnosis. GO to  QD18.
  12. QD12 CHECK FOR A HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE CONCERN 
    • Check for any IPC module DTCs.
    • Check for any other IPC related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the Climate Control System article to continue diagnosis. GO to  QD18.
  13. QD13 CHECK FOR A GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM MODULE (GPSM) CONCERN 
    • Check for any GPSM DTCs.
    • Check for any other GPSM related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the Information and Entertainment Systems article to continue diagnosis. GO to  QD18.
  14. QD14 CHECK FOR A TELEMATICS CONTROL UNIT (TCU) CONCERN 
    • Check for any TCU DTCs.
    • Check for any other TCU related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the Information and Entertainment Systems article to continue diagnosis. GO to  QD18.
  15. QD15 CHECK FOR A BATTERY CHARGER CONTROL MODULE (BCCM) CONCERN 
    • Check for any BCCM DTCs.
    • Check for any other BCCM related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the High Voltage Traction Battery article to continue diagnosis. GO to  QD18.
  16. QD16 CHECK FOR A FRONT DISTANCE RANGE SENSOR CONCERN 
    • Check for any front distance range sensor DTCs.
    • Check for any other front distance range sensor related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the Cruise Control article to continue diagnosis. GO to  QD18.
  17. QD17 CHECK FOR A DC TO DC CONVERTER CONTROL MODULE (DCDC) CONCERN 
    • Check for any DCDC DTCs.
    • Check for any other DCDC related symptoms.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    REFER to the High Voltage Converter/Inverter article to continue diagnosis. GO to QD18  .
  18. QD18 CHECK FOR CORRECT TCM OPERATION 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect all the TCM connectors.
    • Visually inspect for:
      • pushed out pins
      • corrosion
    • Connect all the TCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Carry out the SOBDMC self-test.
    • Verify the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes No
    INSTALL a new TCM.
    REFER to the Automatic Transmission article. REFER to FLASH ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY (EEPROM) , Programming the TRID Block for a Replacement TCM.
    The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
