Selector Lever Cable: Removal

  1. 1.

    With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

  1. 2.

    Remove the floor console. Refer to: Floor Console .

  1. 3.

    NOTE: Do not pull or pry on the selector lever cable or the selector lever cable end may be damaged. Use a screwdriver and turn the screwdriver as shown below to pry the cable end off the post as close to the post as possible.

    Using a screwdriver, pry the selector lever cable end from the selector lever.

  1. 4.

    Remove the selector lever cable retainer.

  1. 5.

    Remove the bolts and the LH side console housing support bracket.

    Remove the retainers and the engine undershield.

FWD vehicles 

  1. 7.

    Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner - 1.6L . Refer to: Air Cleaner - 2.0L . Refer to: Air Cleaner - 2.5L .

  1. 8.

    Disconnect the selector lever cable from the transmission manual lever and the bracket.

      Remove the selector lever cable bracket bolt.

    1. 2.

      Disengage the selector lever cable holding clip.

    1. 3.

      Disconnect the selector lever cable.

  1. 9.

    Remove the nuts and position the front floor exhaust system heat shield aside.

AWD vehicles 

  1. 10.

    Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .

  1. 11.

    Disconnect the selector lever cable from the transmission manual lever and the bracket.

    1. 1.

      Remove the selector lever cable bracket bolt.

    1. 2.

      Disengage the selector lever cable holding clip.

    1. 3.

      Disconnect the selector lever cable.

  1. 12.

    Remove the bolts and position the exhaust pipe mounting bracket aside.

  1. 13.

    Remove the nuts and position the front floor exhaust system heat shield aside.

All vehicles 

  1. 14.

    Disconnect the selector lever cable retainer.

  1. 15.

    Remove the nuts from the grommet, route the selector lever cable from the engine compartment through the floor and remove the selector lever cable from the passenger compartment.
