Exhaust Fluid System Fault Procedure
NOTE:
Verify that no DTCs are present and one of the Exhaust Fluid System Fault messages or the DEF System Fault message is present in the instrument cluster message center before carrying out the procedure.
- Access the PCM and monitor the AAT, EGT12, EGT13, EGT14, RPM, REDUCT_INJ_DC, REDUCT_TNK_P and REDUCT_TNK_T PIDs.
- Verify the EGT12 PID (Wide Frame) or EGT13 PID (Narrow Frame) value is less than 65 °C (150 °F). If the PID value is greater than 65 °C (150 °F), allow the vehicle to cold soak until the PID value is less than 65 °C (150 °F).
- Verify the AAT PID and the REDUCT_TNK_T PID value is greater than -5 °C (23 °F). Start the engine. Increase the engine RPM using the accelerator pedal to 1500 to 2000 RPM. Monitor the EGT12 PID (Wide Frame) or EGT13 PID (Narrow Frame) value until the PID value reaches 90 °C (194 °F). Decrease the engine RPM and allow the engine to idle.
- With the engine at idle; monitor the REDUCT_TNK_P PID for an increase in pressure to 496 kPa (72 psi).
- For Wide Frame vehicles, while at idle, monitor the REDUCT_INJ_DC PID. The PID value should display a square wave injection pattern within 90 seconds of the REDUCT_TNK_P PID pressure increase. This wave pattern should last approximately 30 seconds.
- For Narrow Frame vehicles, drive the vehicle at 8 Km/h (5 MPH) and monitor the REDUCT_INJ_DC PID. The PID value should display a square wave injection pattern within 90 seconds of driving the vehicle. This wave pattern should last approximately 30 seconds. Continue driving for the duration of injection pattern.
- When the injection cycle completes, with the vehicle in park, increase the engine RPM to 2000 to 2500 RPM using the accelerator pedal. With the engine RPM elevated, monitor the EGT14 PID until the value is greater than 155 °C (311 °F) and the message in the message center has cleared.
