Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The stability-traction control disabled indicator (sliding car OFF icon) in the IPC provides traction control system status to the driver. When the driver presses the traction control switch, the FCIM sends a message to the GWM over the MSCAN indicating the driver has requested the traction control to be disabled. The GWM relays this message to the ABS module over the HS-CAN 2. The ABS module continues to monitor for excessive wheel spin, but no longer takes any action when a traction event is detected. The ABS module then sends a message to the IPC through the GWM over the HS-CAN 3 to illuminate the stability-traction control disabled indicator (sliding car OFF icon). The IPC responds by illuminating the stability-traction control disabled indicator (sliding car OFF icon). The traction control system remains deactivated until the driver changes the traction control state using the traction control switch or until the ignition is cycled. If equipped, MyKey® allows users to configure traction control to be either always on or selectable. If a MyKey® restricted key is in use with the stability control feature configured to "on", the traction control system cannot be disabled. An admin key must be used to enable and disable the traction control system.

Possible Causes

NOTE: This test requires the use of at least 2 keys programmed to the vehicle, one admin key and one restricted key.
  1. BG1: VERIFY THAT THE KEY IN USE IS NOT RESTRICTED
    • Place a passive key inside the vehicle and all other passive keys at least 1 meter (3 feet) away from the vehicle.
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Monitor the message center.
    • Does the message center display MYKEY ACTIVE DRIVE SAFELY?
      Yes No
The current key is a restricted key and is operating correctly. REPEAT the test using a different key until the message center does not display MYKEY ACTIVE DRIVE SAFELY. Go to  BG2. Go to  BG2.
  2. BG2: VERIFY THE MYKEY® TRACTION CONTROL SETTING
    • Using the message center, verify the MyKey® traction control setting. Refer to the Owner's Literature for instructions on setting the MyKey® functions.
    • Is the MyKey® traction control setting configured to always on?
      Yes No
Go to  BG3. Go to  BG4.
  3. BG3: VERIFY TRACTION CONTROL FUNCTION CAN BE DISABLED USING THE ADMIN KEY
    • Using the message center, verify traction control can be enabled and disabled using the admin key. Refer to the Owner's Literature for instructions on enabling and disabling traction control.
    • Can traction control be enabled and disabled using the admin key?
      Yes No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by the use of a restricted key. INFORM the customer the traction control can only be disabled using an admin key when the MyKey® traction control setting is configured to always on. Go to  BG4.
  4. BG4: CHECK FOR ABS MODULE DTCS
  5. BG5: CHECK FOR GWM DTCS
  6. BG6: CHECK FOR FCIM DTCS
