Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

When the ignition is in RUN, the ABS module and the PCM share VIN information through the GWM over the HS-CAN 1 and HS-CAN 2. 

PPT AF ABS MODULE DTC FAULT TRIGGER CONDITIONS

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
U3002:62 Vehicle Identification Number: Signal Compare Failure Sets when the VIN message sent by the PCM over the HS-CAN does not match the VIN stored in the ABS module.

Possible Causes 

  1. AF1: VERIFY THE PCM VIN 
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, compare the VIN in the PCM to the VIN plate on the vehicle.
    • Does the VIN in the PCM match the VIN plate? 
      Yes No
      Go to  AF2. RECONFIGURE the PCM. FOLLOW the instructions on the diagnostic scan tool.
  2. AF2: VERIFY THE ABS MODULE PART NUMBER 
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve and record the ABS module part number.
    • Compare the part number retrieved to the part number in the parts catalog or equivalent.
    • Is the correct ABS module installed in the vehicle? 
      Yes No
      CONFIGURE the ABS module. REFER to Module Communications Network . INSTALL a new ABS module.
      CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins TSBs.
      If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions.
      If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) And Stability Control .
      ORDER a replacement ABS module and INCLUDE the RVC on the form.
      If this is a Ford paid repair, INCLUDE the RVC on the warranty claim form.
      When complete, SELECT the "X" in the top right corner to CLOSE this procedure.
