Selector Lever Cable: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

1.6L 

  1. 1.

    With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

  1. 2.

    Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .

  1. 3.

    Loosen the air cleaner outlet pipe clamp and then remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

2.5L 

  1. 4.

    Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .

All vehicles 

  1. 5.

    1. 1.

      Remove the selector lever adjuster cable bracket bolt.

      Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

    1. 2.

      Disengage the selector lever adjuster cable holding clip.

    1. 3.

      Disconnect the selector lever adjuster cable.

  1. 6.

    Attach a pull cord to the selector lever cable. Use the General Equipment: Draw Cord Use the General Equipment: Adhesive Tape

  1. 7.

    Remove the selector lever assembly. Refer to: Selector Lever Assembly .

  1. 8.

    If equipped, remove the retainers and the underbody shield.

1.6L 

  1. 9.

    Remove the catalytic converter to catalytic converter bracket mounting nuts. Remove the catalytic converter bracket mounting nuts and then remove the catalytic converter bracket.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)

All vehicles 

  1. 10.

    1. 1.

      Remove the nuts.

      Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

    1. 2.

      Remove the bolts and the subframe support bracket.

      Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  1. 11.

    Remove the retainers and position the front floor exhaust system cover.

    Disconnect the selector lever cable from the bolt clip.

    Separate the floor console LH side trim panel.

    1. 1.

      Remove the bolt.

      Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

    1. 2.

      Remove the bolts.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    1. 3.

      Remove the bolts and the LH side console housing support bracket.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  1. 15.

    NOTE: Gearshift cables must not be kinked or bent.

    1. 1.

      Remove the nuts.

      Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

    1. 2.

      NOTE: Take extra care not to damage the edges of the component.

      Lift the A/C evaporator and blower assembly and remove the selector lever cable.

    1. 3.

      Make sure cable mount fits flush to floor pan.
