Normal Operation
The PSCM runs a self test when the ignition is set to ON and the module is receiving at least 6 volts. The self test compares the software in the module to the steering gear hardware. If the 2 items are not compatible, the EPAS enters manual mode and sends a request to the IPC message center to alert the vehicle occupants and sends an EPAS _FAILURE message to other modules on the HS-CAN. This test generates a RVC for a new PSCM when directed to do so from pinpoint test. A RVC is required to order a new PSCM and to document billing for payment.
- Z1: REFLASH AND VERIFY THE PSCM DTC
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, make sure the PSCM is programmed (flashed) to the latest level of software. Follow all diagnostic scan tool instructions.
- Clear the PSCM DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Wait at least 90 seconds for the modules to completely shut off.
- Ignition ON, engine OFF.
- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs.
- Does the DTC return?
Yes No Go to Z2. The condition causing the DTC is not present at this time.
If this is a Ford paid repair, INCLUDE the RVC on the warranty claim form.
When complete, SELECT the "X" in the top right corner to CLOSE this procedure.
- Z2: OBTAIN PSCM RVC
- Obtain the PSCM RVC: In order to claim the SLTS labor operation for completion of the PSCM testing, the code obtained through the link below must be included on the associated warranty claim.
INSTALL a new PSCM.
REFER to Power Steering System .
ORDER a replacement PSCM and INCLUDE the RVC on the form.
If this is a Ford paid repair, INCLUDE the RVC on the warranty claim form.
When complete, SELECT the "X" in the top right corner to CLOSE this procedure.
