Brake Shift Interlock Override - Column Shift

NOTE:
If it is necessary to use the brake shift interlock actuator override procedure to move the selector lever out of the PARK position, it is possible that a fuse has blown and the brake lights are not operational. Before driving the vehicle, verify the brake lights are working.
This vehicle is equipped with a brake shift interlock actuator feature that prevents the selector lever from being moved out of the PARK position when the ignition is in the ON position until the brake pedal is applied. If the selector lever cannot be moved out of the PARK position when the ignition is in the ON position and the brake pedal is applied:
- Apply the parking brake. Turn the ignition key to the off position and remove the key.
- Set the ignition switch to the 0 position (ignition off) and remove the key.
- Fully extend and lower the steering column.

- Remove the lower steering column cover screws.
- Detach the clips and remove the instrument panel lower steering column cover.

- Remove the lower steering column shroud screws.
- Detach from the upper steering column shroud and remove the lower steering column shroud.
- Move the brake shift interlock actuator spindle outward, apply the brake pedal and position the selector lever into NEUTRAL.

- Install the lower steering column shroud and attach the upper steering column shroud.
- Install the lower steering column shroud screws.

- Install the instrument panel lower steering column cover and attach the clips.
- Install the lower steering column cover screws.
- Start the vehicle.
