Rear Drive Unit (RDU) Identification
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Ford Flex. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Record the 4-digit bar code before installing the Rear Drive Unit (RDU).
The AWD system is equipped with a bar coded active torque coupling solenoid. The 4-digit bar code is located on the bottom of the Rear Drive Unit (RDU). The PCM uses this 4-digit bar code information to match the clutch characteristics of the active torque coupling solenoid with the desired output torque. If the bar code information does not match the PCM information, driveline damage or driveability concerns can occur.
When a PCM is replaced, the new PCM needs to be configured with the existing active torque coupling solenoid bar code information.
If the rear drive axle is replaced, the existing PCM needs to be configured with the new active torque coupling solenoid bar code information.
