High-Pressure Fuel Pump: Removal
NOTE:
Do not loosen any fittings or plugs on the high-pressure fuel pump.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove the engine appearance cover retainers and then remove the engine appearance cover.
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

NOTE: Support the engine cover before removing the strut. Failure to follow this direction may result in damage to the components.
Release the lower clip, then disconnect the engine cover strut and position out of the way.
- Remove the right engine compartment cover retainers and then remove the right engine compartment cover.
- Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump electrical connector.

- Disconnect the secondary latch and position out of the way.
- Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump supply line spring lock coupling. Refer to: Spring Lock Couplings .
- Follow the directions for the quick release coupling type 3. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube, then remove the crankcase ventilation tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling
.
- Remove the retainers, then remove the engine cover bracket.
- Remove and discard the high-pressure fuel pump to fuel rail high-pressure fuel tube retaining bolts. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump to fuel rail high-pressure fuel tube flare nuts, then remove and discard the high-pressure fuel pump to fuel rail high-pressure fuel tube.

NOTE: Alternately loosen the high-pressure fuel pump bolts one complete revolution at a time.
Remove the high-pressure fuel pump bolts and then remove the high-pressure fuel pump.
- Remove and discard the high-pressure fuel pump O-ring seal.
- Remove the high-pressure fuel pump roller tappet.
- Inspect the high-pressure fuel pump roller tappet. If any flat spots or scoring are found, especially in the indicated areas, then inspect the high-pressure fuel pump and the high-pressure fuel pump roller tappet drive lobe. Install new components as needed.
- Loosen the high-pressure fuel pump mounting plate bolt and then remove the mounting plate.
