Park Detect Switch - Vehicles with push button ignition: Installation
Selector levers with a SelectShift® switch
- Install the SelectShift® switch wires in the electrical connector.
- Yellow wire in slot 10.
- Brown wire in slot 9.
- Red wire in slot 8.
- Slide the electrical connector pin alignment plate locking tabs into the locked position.
- Secure the locking tab on the wiring harness retainer or install a new wire tie.
All selector levers
- Install the park detect switch, making sure the alignment posts are not broken after installation and the switch is locked in place by both retainer tabs.

NOTE: Wiring harness routing, pushpin location and electrical connector location and retention varies from selector lever to selector lever. Install the wiring according to the routing noted during removal.
Loop the wires around the wire routing guide posts and, if necessary, connect the electrical connector retainer.
- Connect the wiring harness pushpin.
- Connect the BSIA electrical connector.
- If equipped, install the park detect switch cover and the screw.

NOTE: Do not install any floor console trim panels until the selector lever verification procedure is complete.
Install the selector lever. Refer to Selector Lever -- Floor Shift .
- Set the parking brake and place the selector lever in Park.
- With the ignition on and the engine off, "P" should be illuminated on the instrument cluster. Step on the brake and press the selector lever button. Verify "P" is no longer illuminated. Release the selector lever button. "P" should be illuminated on the instrument cluster. If the "P" on the instrument cluster did not function as expected, inspect the park detect switch and wiring, correct any cause and retest.
- With the ignition on and the engine off, attempt to move the selector lever out of park without pressing the brake pedal. If the selector lever moves out of park, inspect the brake shift interlock actuator and the wiring, correct any cause and retest.
- Apply the brake pedal and move the shift lever out of park. If the shift lever does not move out of park, inspect the brake shift interlock actuator and the wiring, correct any cause and retest.
- If the selector lever is equipped with a SelectShift® switch, start the engine, apply the brake and place the selector lever in the "S" or "M" position. Press the + button on the selector lever and verify the instrument cluster indicates gear 2. With the instrument cluster indicating gear 2, press the - button and verify the instrument cluster indicates gear 1. If the SelectShift® switch did not function as expected, inspect the SelectShift® switch wiring for correct positions in the selector lever electrical connector. Refer to installation step 1 for correct wiring positions.
- With the vehicle in park and the ignition off, verify that no "Shift to Park" message appears on the instrument cluster.
- Install the console trim panels. Refer to Selector Lever -- Floor Shift .
