Frame Members-Rear Frame Section: Installation

  1. With the help of an assistant, position the new rear frame section into place on the vehicle.

  2. Verify dimensional accuracy before  performing any welding operations. Refer to: BODY DIMENSIONS AND BODY CONSTRUCTION .
  3. Support the new section, and loosely clamp the replacement section in a preliminary position. Perform measurements to verify proper placement of the new rear frame section, then clamp firmly into position.

    • With all measurements verified and the new rear frame section in proper position, tack-weld in place to the frame assembly.

      Use the General Equipment: Locking Pliers

  4. NOTE: Left hand (LH) shown in illustration, right hand (RH) similar.

    Perform a final measurement, then final weld the new rear tow module section to the mid rear section on all overlap joints on both sides. Refer to: BODY DIMENSIONS AND BODY CONSTRUCTION . Refer to: JOINING TECHNIQUES . Use the General Equipment: MIG/MAG Welding Equipment

  5. NOTE: Left hand (LH) shown in illustration, right hand (RH) similar.

  6. Metal finish the joint area typical metal finishing techniques.
  7. Refinish using a Ford approved paint system.
  8. Restore corrosion protection. Refer to: CORROSION PREVENTION .
  9. NOTE: To avoid damage to the spare tire winch when installing the spare tire, DO NOT exceed 200 RPM if using power tool equipment.

    Install the following items:

    1. Install the C-pillar and D-pillar body mount bolts if removed. Refer to: Frame and Body Mounting .
    2. Refer to: Trailer Hitch .
    3. Refer to: Axle Assembly - Rear Drive Axle/Differential.
    4. Refer to: Rear Driveshaft .
    5. Refer to: Upper Arm - Rear Suspension.
    6. Refer to: Shock Absorber and Spring Assembly - Rear Suspension.
    7. Refer to: Panhard Rod - Rear Suspension.
    8. Refer to: Lower Arm - Rear Suspension.
    9. Refer to: Muffler Inlet Pipe - 2.3L EcoBoost (199kW/270PS). Refer to: Muffler - 2.7L EcoBoost (238kW/324PS).
    10. Refer to: Rear Bumper .
