Front Brake Disc: Removal

Vehicles with twin I-beam axle

NOTE: The brake disc and wheel hub are an assembly on vehicles with twin I-beam axle.
Remove the front wheel bearing and wheel hub. Refer to: Front Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub - F-250/F-350 - RWD.
Vehicles with monobeam axle
- Remove the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Single Rear Wheels . Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Dual Rear Wheels .

NOTE: Do not pry in the caliper sight hole to retract the pistons as this can damage the pistons and boots.NOTE: Do not allow the brake caliper to hang from the brake hose or damage to the hose can occur.NOTE: F250, F350 shown in illustration.
Remove the bolts and position the brake caliper and anchor plate aside. Discard the bolts.
Torque:
F250, F350: 203 lb.ft (275 Nm)
F450, F550: 166 lb.ft (225 Nm)
- If equipped with dual rear wheels (DRW), index mark the brake disc and wheel hub extension. Remove the nuts and the wheel hub extension.
Torque: 130 lb.ft (176 Nm)
- Remove the brake disc.
- Clean the brake disc mating surfaces using a wire brush and the specified material.
Material: Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B
- If equipped with dual rear wheels (DRW), clean the wheel hub mating surfaces using a wire brush and the specified material.
Material: Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B
