Engine - Overview

Engine Information 

NOTE: When repairing engines, all parts must be contamination free. If contamination/foreign material is present when repairing an engine, premature engine failure may occur.
NOTE: Specifications show the expected minimum or maximum condition. Refer to the appropriate Engine System article for the specifications.
NOTE: If a component fails to meet the specifications, it is necessary to refinish it or install a new component. Wear limits are provided as an aid to determine if the component can be refinished. Install a new component when it fails to meet specifications and cannot be refinished.
NOTE: This information contains information, steps and procedures that are not engine specific.

This information covers general procedures and diagnosis and testing of the engine system. For exhaust emission control devices, refer to the ENGINE CONTROLS - INTRODUCTION (EXCEPT DIESEL & HYBRID)

The engine incorporates the following features. Refer to the appropriate Engine System article for the procedure.

Some engines incorporate a fail-safe cooling system. Refer to: ENGINE COOLING - 2.0L ECOBOOST (184KW/250PS) - MI4 or ENGINE COOLING - 2.7L ECOBOOST (238KW/324PS) .

The engine, fuel system, ignition system, emissions system and exhaust system all affect exhaust emission levels and must be maintained according to the maintenance schedule. Refer to the Scheduled Maintenance Guide.

Correct engine identification is required to order parts. Refer to: Engine - Overview - 2.0L EcoBoost .
