Steering Wheel: Removal

NOTE: To prevent damage to the clockspring, make sure the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Remove the driver airbag. Refer to: Driver Airbag
  2. Disconnect the steering wheel electrical connectors.

  3. Remove the steering wheel retainer and the steering wheel.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  4. NOTE: Make sure the clockspring rotor does not rotate.
    NOTE: Make sure the clockspring pins are not bent or damaged.

    Tape the clockspring rotor to the outer housing to keep it from rotating.

  5. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Remove the steering wheel multifunction switch. Refer to: Steering Wheel Multifunction Switch
