Oil Pump: Installation

NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
Install the new gasket as shown with the single ridge facing up.

NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
Install a new O-ring seal.
- Prime the oil pump.
- Add 2.03 oz (60 cc) of clean engine oil to the oil pump inlet port.
Material: Castrol® EDGE® Supercar 5W-50 (WSS-M2C931-C)
- Add 0.5 oz (15 cc) of clean engine oil to the right hand turbo scavenge inlet port.
Material: Castrol® EDGE® Supercar 5W-50 (WSS-M2C931-C)
- Rotate oil pump pulley shaft counter clockwise 10 times by hand.
- Add 2.03 oz (60 cc) of clean engine oil to the oil pump inlet port.
- Prime the scavenge oil pump.

NOTE: Oil may flow out of the scavenge pump inlet port.
Add 2.5 oz (75 cc) of clean engine oil to the scavenge pump discharge port.

- Rotate oil pump pulley shaft clockwise 10 times by hand.

- Prime the oil pump.
- Hold the oil pump vertical with the shaft spline down for 10 seconds to internally wet the shaft seal.
- Clean the oil pump assembly exterior of any residual oil with isopropyl alcohol before installation.
- Install the oil pump and tighten the bolts in sequence shown.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- If the oil pump was replaced, using a feeler gauge, measure and record the shim gap between the oil pump and the bellhousing. Use the General Equipment: Feeler Gauge

NOTE: A shim kit will contain two 0.254 mm (.010 in) and one 0.127 mm (.005 in) shim, it is acceptable to use multiple shims to make up the difference in the gap to a max of 0.1 mm (0.004 in).
Install the shim(s) and the bellhousing-to-oil pump bolt.
Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)
- Install the oil pump support bracket and the bolts.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

- Position the oil pump supply and return tube.
-
NOTE: Failure to maintain alignment of the flange while tightening will result in damage to the tube flanges.
Install the bolts and alternate tightening the bolts until seated.
- Alternate torquing the bolts to:
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Alternate torquing the bolts an additional:
Torque: 45°

- Install a new gasket.
- Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the new O-ring seal.
Material: Castrol® EDGE® Supercar 5W-50 (WSS-M2C931-C)

- Install the turbocharger oil return tube and the bolts.
Torque: 22 lb.ft (29.5 Nm)
- Install the turbocharger oil return tube bolt.
Torque: Stage 1: 71 lb.in (8 Nm) | Stage 2: 30°
- Install the turbocharger oil return tube and the bolts.
- Install the lower auxiliary oil cooler bracket and the bolts.
Torque: 93 lb.in (10.5 Nm)

- Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the new O-ring seals.
Material: Castrol® EDGE® Supercar 5W-50 (WSS-M2C931-C)

NOTE: Use commercially available loctite 545 hydraulic sealant.NOTE: The auxiliary oil cooler supply tubes must be installed within 1 minute of the initial sealant application.
Apply loctite 545 hydraulic sealant to 37 degree flare of the auxiliary oil cooler supply and return tubes.
- Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the new O-ring seals.

- Install the auxiliary oil cooler supply tube and the bolt finger tight.
- Install the auxiliary oil cooler return tube and the bolt finger tight.
- Install the auxiliary oil cooler supply and return tube support bracket bolt finger tight.
- Install and tighten the auxiliary oil cooler supply and return tube fittings finger tight.

- Tighten the auxiliary oil cooler supply tube.
Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
- Tighten the auxiliary oil cooler return tube.
Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
- Tighten the auxiliary oil cooler supply tube.
- Index mark the auxiliary oil cooler supply tube.

NOTE: Use a AN Wrench (such as an Summit Racing® AN hose end wrench, or equivalent).NOTE: Only use the appropriately sized AN Wrench to hold male fitting while torquing the female fitting.NOTE: The turn of 1 flat is equal to 160 Nm (118 lb-ft).
Tighten to 1 flat past original mark.

NOTE: This mark is for quick reference visual mark to monitor if the nut has backed off.
Index mark the auxiliary oil cooler supply tube.
- Index mark the auxiliary oil cooler return tube.

NOTE: Use a AN Wrench (such as an Summit Racing® AN hose end wrench, or equivalent).NOTE: Only use the appropriately sized AN Wrench to hold male fitting while torquing the female fitting.NOTE: The turn of 1 flat is equal to 160 Nm (118 lb-ft).
Tighten to 1 flat past original mark.

Index mark the auxiliary oil cooler return tube.
- Tighten the auxiliary oil cooler supply and return tube support bracket bolt.
Torque: 55 lb.in (6.2 Nm)
- Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the new O-ring seals.
Material: Castrol® EDGE® Supercar 5W-50 (WSS-M2C931-C)
- Install the oil pump tube and the bolts.
Torque: Stage 1: 71 lb.in (8 Nm) | Stage 2: 30°

- Install the oil pump belt on the oil pump pulley.
- Install the oil pump belt tensioner and M8 bolt. Snug up the M8 bolt so that you can still rotate the large hex on the tensioner.
- Rotate the large hex until the tension on the belt is just shy of being able to twist the belt 90 degrees.
- Tighten the M8 bolt.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

- Install the RH support bar, bolts and the nuts.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Tighten RH support bar bolt.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the RH support bar, bolts and the nuts.
-
- Install the coolant hoses and tighten the clamps.
Torque: 40 lb.in (4.5 Nm)
- Remove the hose locking pliers.
- Install the coolant hoses and tighten the clamps.
-
- Prefill a new oil filter with clean engine oil.
Material: Castrol® EDGE® Supercar 5W-50 (WSS-M2C931-C)
- Lubricate the oil filter gasket with clean engine oil.
- Prefill a new oil filter with clean engine oil.

- Install a new oil filter and tighten in 2 stages.
- Stage 1: Install to initial gasket contact.
- Stage 2: Tighten 3/4 to 1 turn.

NOTE: The RH CAC outlet pipe must be installed to start the engine.
Install the RH air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe RH .

NOTE: The total volume of oil required to properly refill the engine oil system can vary depending on the volume of oil drained from the system components.
Add 10.0 quarts (9.5 liters) of clean engine oil to the oil tank as an initial fill.

- Inspect and adjust the coolant level in the degas bottle.
Material: Motorcraft® Orange Concentrated Antifreeze/Coolant / VC-3-B (WSS-M97B44-D)
- Start the engine and idle. If the engine stalls before the coolant temperature reaches 190 degrees Fahrenheit (88 degrees Celsius), perform the following 4 steps.
- Remove the RH rear fender splash shield. Refer to: Rear Fender Splash Shield .
- Install a plastic tube onto the bleed fitting port on the auxiliary oil cooler line and the other end of the tube into the oil drain equipment. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

NOTE: If the vehicle does not start or must be shut down before bleeding is complete, leave the bleed fitting port open during engine shut down and repeat this step with the bleed fitting port open before starting the engine.
- Open the bleed fitting port.
- Start the engine and let it run, initially you will get air from the bleed fitting port.
- Allow the oil and air to bleed from the fitting until a solid stream of oil comes from the bleed fitting port. Do not drain more than 1 quart (0.946 liter) of oil in this manner.
- Close the bleed fitting port.
Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
- Remove the plastic tube from the bleed fitting port.

- Continue idling until the coolant temperature reaches 190 degrees Fahrenheit (88 degrees Celsius).
- Turn the engine off.
- Wait 2 to 3 minutes.

NOTE: Do not exceed the specified engine oil system capacity of 13.7 quarts (13 liters).
Check the oil level by screwing dipstick in until fully seated and add as necessary to place the level between the minimum and maximum oil level marks on the dipstick.

- Start the engine and check for leaks.
- If removed, install the RH rear fender splash shield. Refer to: Rear Fender Splash Shield .
- Lower the vehicle and position the hoist using the front and mid lift points and raise the vehicle. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

NOTE: Apply threadlock to the bolts before installation.
Install the engine underbody cover and the bolts.
Material: Motorcraft® Threadlock and Sealer / TA-25-B
Torque: 60 lb.in (6.8 Nm)
