Valve Cover LH: Installation

  1. NOTE: Installation of new seals is only required if damaged seals were removed.

    If removed, using the special tools, install the spark plug tube seals. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer, 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.

  2. NOTE: Installation of new seals is only required if damaged seals were removed.

    If removed, using the special tools, install the VCT oil control solenoid seals. Use Special Service Tool: 205-142 (T80T-4000-J) Installer, Differential Bearing Cone, 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.

  3. Install a new valve cover gasket.

  4. NOTE: If the valve cover is not installed and the fasteners tightened within 7 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned.

    Apply an 8 mm (0.31 in) bead of Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone to the engine front cover-to-cylinder head joints.

    Material: Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone / TA-357 (WSE-M4G323-A6)

  5. Install the valve cover and tighten the bolts and stud bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  6. Make sure the VCT seals in the valve cover are below the top of the VCT oil control solenoid electrical connector or the VCT seal may leak oil.

  7. If equipped, install the turbocharger heat shield and the nuts.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    • Position the wiring harness and attach the wiring harness retainers.

    • Connect the VCT sensor electrical connectors.

    • Connect the CMP sensor electrical connectors.

  8. Connect the EOP sensor wiring harness electrical connector and retainer.

  9. Install the EVAP canister purge valve tube.

  10. Working from below, connect the EVAP canister purge valve tube quick release coupling to the LH air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

    • Connect the PCV pressure sensor electrical connector.

  11. Install the crankcase vent tube and connect the quick connect coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  12. Install the following items:

    1. Install the LH ignition coil-on-plugs. Refer to: Ignition Coil-On-Plug .
    2. Install the A/C compressor inlet line. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Inlet Line .

  13. Lower the vehicle and position the hoist using the front and mid lift points and raise the vehicle. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  14. NOTE: Apply threadlock to the bolts before installation.

    Install the engine underbody cover and the bolts.

    Material: Motorcraft® Threadlock and Sealer / TA-25-B

    Torque: 60 lb.in (6.8 Nm)
