Brake Shift Interlock Actuator Manual Override

NOTE: If the GSM cannot be moved from the P position with the ignition in the ON position and the brake pedal applied, it is possible that a fuse has blown and the brake lights are not operational. Before carrying out this procedure, verify the brake lights are working.
This vehicle is equipped with a brake shift interlock feature that prevents the vehicle from being moved out of P when the engine is running until the brake pedal is applied. Proceed with this procedure if the vehicle cannot be moved out of the P position when the engine is running and the brake pedal is applied.
NOTE: Turn the engine OFF before carrying out this procedure.Check for brake shift interlock actuator DTC. If brake shift interlock actuator DTC are present, Refer to: External Controls .
- Open the engine cover.
- Apply the parking brake.
- Remove the park release shaft access plug.

NOTE: The neutral gear tool is stowed in the luggage compartment.NOTE: The splines on the neutral gear tool and the park release shaft are keyed.
Install and rotate the neutral gear tool.
- Install the tool on the park release shaft.
- Rotate the tool clockwise to shift the transmission into N.

NOTE: Have an assistant hold the tool in place while repositioning the vehicle.
Hold the tool in place to keep the transmission in N.
- Release the parking brake and reposition the vehicle.
- Apply the parking brake.
- Carefully allow the tool to rotate counterclockwise to the P position.
- Remove the neutral gear tool.
- Install the park release shaft access plug.
- Close the engine cover.
