External Controls - Overview

The shift by wire system uses a rotary dial or lever operated GSM to interface with the PCM to select gear positions.

The rotary dial or lever operated GSM includes a SelectShift® switch which allows the driver to manually shift the transmission when M is selected on the GSM.

The shift by wire system also includes a brake shift interlock that will not allow the transmission to shift out of P unless the brake pedal is applied.
