Activation
- Apply the parking brake.
-
- Clear all DTC's
- For PHEV be sure the HVB is above 25% charge.
- Be sure the 12 volt battery is above 11 volts.
- Power down the modules. Switch the ignition OFF and open and close the driver door. Allow
2 minutes for all modules to power down. During the 2 minutes, do not use any module controlled features like power locks, windows or the radio. Failure to allow the vehicle to power down will prevent the vehicle from entering Engine Running Diagnostic Mode.
-
NOTE: Do not press the brake pedal.
Switch the ignition ON. The ignition should be on, the vehicle should not be Ready To Run.
- Within 5 seconds - Fully apply the accelerator pedal and hold for 8-12 seconds.
- Within 5 seconds - Release the accelerator pedal and apply the brake, shift the vehicle to Drive (D), release the brake and immediately apply the accelerator pedal for 8-12 seconds.
- Within 5 seconds - Release the accelerator pedal and shift the gear selector to PARK (it is not necessary to apply the brake when shifting to Park [P]).
-
NOTE: If the sequence is correctly executed the powertrain malfunction indicator (wrench lamp) flashes once per second when the gear selector is shifted to PARK. The hybrid powertrain control module exits the engine running mode when the gear selector is shifted to any gear other than PARK, when the ignition is switched to the OFF or ACC position, or the powertrain or hybrid electric system exceeds calibrated limits.
To run the engine, press the brake and push the start button. When this sequence is completed successfully, the vehicle enters the engine running diagnostic mode and the engine remains running continuously. If this procedure is unsuccessful, switch the ignition to the off position, open and close the driver door, wait 2 minutes and repeat the procedure.
