Test TC-113A - EVAP Purge Flow Monitor Failure

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article in this section.
NOTE: Replacing PCM will not correct this problem. EVAP purge solenoid may also be referred to as EVAP solenoid.
  1. Using scan tool, monitor EVAP PURGE SOLENOID state. Start engine. Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature. Disconnect EVAP solenoid-to-EVAP canister hose at EVAP solenoid. Go to next step.
  2. Ensure no continuous vacuum flow exists through EVAP solenoid while scan tool displays duty cycle more than zero percent. If continuous vacuum flow does not exist, go to step 4). If continuous vacuum flow exists, go to next step.
    CAUTION: DO NOT  use more than 5 psi in following step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Attempt to blow air through EVAP solenoid-to-EVAP canister hose. If air flows, EVAP solenoid and hoses are okay. Test is complete. Perform TEST VER-5A. If air does not flow, perform TEST TC-113B .
  4. Turn engine off, ignition on. Disconnect EVAP solenoid-to-throttle hose at EVAP solenoid. Connect a vacuum gauge to disconnected hose. Start engine and allow it to idle. If gauge does not read manifold vacuum, repair restriction in vacuum hose, throttle or intake manifold and perform TEST VER-5A. If gauge reads manifold vacuum, go to next step.
  5. Reconnect EVAP solenoid-to-throttle hose. Connect vacuum gauge to canister side of EVAP solenoid. If vacuum reading is not 3-7 in. Hg, replace EVAP solenoid and perform TEST VER-5A . If vacuum reading is 3-7 in. Hg, go to next step.
  6. Connect vacuum pump to EVAP solenoid-to-EVAP canister hose. Apply more than 2 in. Hg vacuum. If canister does not hold more than 2 in. Hg, replace EVAP solenoid and perform TEST VER-5A. If canister holds more than 2 in. Hg, go to next step.
  7. Check for plugged hose or vent port on EVAP canister. Repair hose as necessary and perform TEST VER-5A. If vent port is plugged, clean plugged vent port and retest. If no plugs exist, replace EVAP canister and perform TEST VER-5A .
