Sensor Rotors: Installation

  1. Install ABS speed sensor rotor on hub. Install brake dust shield. Apply grease on seal lips. Using Countershaft Bearing Replacer (09310-35010), press axle hub into steering knuckle. Install snap ring in steering knuckle.
  2. Rotate and insert side lips of new grease seal into oil seal replacer, and tap grease seal into steering knuckle. Using oil seal replacer, drive dust deflector into steering knuckle.
  3. Install steering hub and knuckle assembly onto drive axle. Connect steering knuckle to shock absorber lower bracket. Connect tie rod end to steering knuckle. Tighten castle nut. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at end of article. If cotter pin will not go through castle nut, tighten nut until cotter pin can be installed. DO NOT loosen castle nut.
  4. Tighten lower ball joint mounting bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table. Connect ABS speed sensor. Install brake disc on hub, and align marks made during disassembly. Install disc brake caliper on steering knuckle. Tighten axle bearing lock nut while an assistant depresses brake pedal. Install lock cap and new cotter pin. Check front end alignment. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.


  1. Always replace grease seal. Apply molybdenum grease on outer bearing race, and press bearing into axle hub. Install inner (outside) bearing race. Apply grease to seal lips.
  2. Drive new grease seal into axle hub. Press axle shaft into axle hub. Tighten lock nut to specification, and stake it to axle. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at end of article. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
