Steering Column: Disassembly

  1. Using a centering punch, mark the center of the tapered head bolts. Using a 3-4 mm drill, drill into the tapered head bolt. See Fig 1. Using a screw extractor, remove the tapered head bolt. See Fig 2. Remove the two bolts and separate the upper bracket and column tube.

  2. Remove the two thrust stopper set bolts. See Fig 3. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring, see Fig 4. Remove the main shaft. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring from the main shaft. See Fig 5.

  3. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring and trust stopper, see Fig 6. Remove the O-ring from the thrust stopper.
