Fuel Level Warning Light & Switch Test

  1. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit harness connector. Connect a jumper wire between terminals No. 1 and 3. See Figure. If fuel level warning light glows, go to next step. If light does not operate, check bulb and wiring between fuel gauge sending unit. Repair as necessary.
  2. Remove fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Apply a 12-volt power source, through a 3.4-watt test bulb, to terminal No. 2. See Figure. Connect terminal No. 1 to ground.
  3. After a short time, test bulb should light. Submerge sending unit in a container of fuel. See Fig 1. Test bulb should go out. If operation is not as specified, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
