Steering Wheel Turning Force

  1. Center steering wheel. Attach spring balance to steering wheel spoke, near rim. Measure turning effort in both directions. Maximum effort should not exceed 9.0 lbs. (4.1 kg). If steering effort is excessive, repair system as necessary.
  2. Unplug pressure control valve harness connector. Measure turning effort. Maximum effort should not exceed 18 lbs. (8 kg). If steering effort is excessive, repair system as necessary.
NOTE: Tire type, inflation pressure, and contact surface will affect turning effort, and must be considered while making diagnosis.
