Low Oil Level Warning Light System Test

NOTE: Oil level switch will not operate until engine oil is warm.
  1. Turn ignition off. Check for fault in circuit between instrument cluster and oil level switch, and between oil level switch and ground. If circuit is okay, disconnect instrument cluster connector "C". See Figure. Turn ignition on. Wait at least 40 seconds. Note whether or not warning light came on.
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect a jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 9 of connector "C". See Figure. Turn ignition on. Wait at least 40 seconds. Note whether or not warning light came on.
  3. If warning light came on in step 1) or step 2) (but not both steps), replace oil level switch. If warning light did not come on in either step, or if it came on in both steps, go to next step.
  4. Check warning light bulb. If bulb is okay, replace circuit plate. See Figure. If light still does not come on, replace the instrument cluster computer.
