Fuel Rails & Injectors: Removal

  1. Relieve fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove throttle body. See THROTTLE BODY. Disconnect fuel inlet and return lines.
  2. Remove 2 air intake chamber stays (brackets). Disconnect vacuum hose from fuel pressure regulator. Disconnect Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS) valve actuator. See Figure. Remove fuel rail and injectors as an assembly. Remove injectors from fuel rail.


  1. Relieve fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove air cleaner assembly. Remove air cleaner air duct hose. Remove battery (if necessary).
  2. Remove engine compartment relay box cover. Remove throttle body cover. Disconnect throttle cables from throttle body. Disconnect air hose from Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. Disconnect air hose from air control valve on power steering pump.
  3. Disconnect air duct hose from throttle body. Remove right and left engine wire covers. Remove right and left No. 3 timing belt covers. See Figure. Remove high tension wire covers.
  4. Disconnect radiator hose from water inlet housing. Disconnect radiator hose from front water by-pass joint. Disconnect wiring harness connectors as necessary. Remove throttle body. Remove air intake chamber.
  5. Remove engine wire harness from fuel rail. Disconnect injector connectors. Remove fuel return pipe. Remove bolt, pulsation damper and 2 gaskets. Disconnect fuel inlet hose from fuel rail. Remove 4 nuts attaching fuel rails to intake manifold. Remove fuel rails, 2 fuel delivery pipes, injectors, 4 spacers and 8 insulators as an assembly.
