Oxygen Sensor Operation: Sub-Sensor(s)

  1. Clear trouble codes. See TESTS W/CODES - EXCEPT OBD-II article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. Warm engine to normal operating temperature.
  2. With transmission in Drive, cruise at 50-62 MPH for 5 minutes. While cruising at 50-62 MPH, press accelerator pedal to the floor for at least 2 seconds, but DO NOT  exceed 62 MPH (if vehicle speed exceeds 62 MPH, trouble code will automatically clear, resulting in a false test).
  3. Stop vehicle. Turn ignition off. Perform step 2) again. Retrieve trouble codes. If the following code(s) are set, check sub-sensor circuit. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  under INTRODUCTION. If circuit is okay, replace sub-sensor.
