Starter Control Circuit

With ignition switch in START position, current flows to Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch (clutch start switch on M/T). PNP switch (or clutch switch) prevents the starter from operating if the transmission is in gear. Current flows through the starter relay coil and is grounded at the theft deterrent ECU. This energizes the starter relay, allowing battery power to the starter solenoid. The starter solenoid engages, allowing current to flow through starter motor field coils.

NOTE: If the theft deterrent system is armed, the theft deterrent ECU will not ground the starter relay coil.
