Power Steering Pump: Reassembly

  1. Lubricate all moving parts with power steering fluid. Press shaft into bearing. Install snap ring. Press shaft and bearing assembly into front housing. DO NOT damage pump shaft oil seal. Install pump shaft snap ring.
  2. Install long pin into front housing. Install new "O" rings onto front and rear side plates. Align wide hole in front side plate with pin. Press plate into front housing. Install short pin into front side plate.
  3. Align wide hole in cam ring with long pin. Install cam ring with dot mark on ring facing outward. Install rotor with dot mark facing outward. Install vane plates with rounded edges facing outward.
  4. Align wide hole in rear side plate with long pin. Press plate into front housing. Install wave washer with tangs downward. Install new "O" ring onto rear bracket. Install bracket. Tighten retaining bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Install pulley nut finger tight. Measure pump rotating torque. Rotating torque should not exceed 0.9 INCH lbs. (0.1 N.m). Pump should rotate freely with no abnormal noise.
  6. Install flow control valve, spring, spring seat, and pressure port fitting. Install spring seat with bolt hole facing outward. Install snap ring. Install air control valve and reservoir. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
