Except M/T
Cruise control ECU applies a reference voltage to neutral start switch to sense whether switch is open or closed. With shift lever in any position except Park or Neutral, switch is open. When shift lever is moved to Park or Neutral position, switch closes and cruise control ECU disengages cruise control.
- If starter operates with shift lever in any position except Park and Neutral, check for fault in starter circuit. See STARTER article in ELECTRICAL section. If starter operates with shift lever in Park and Neutral positions only, check input signal circuit of neutral start switch. See INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUITS .
- If input signal circuit is okay, perform next procedure listed in DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM table. If input signal circuit is not okay, remove cruise control ECU, but leave electrical connector(s) attached.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal no. 2 of cruise control ECU connector. See Figure.
- With shift lever in Park or Neutral position, voltage should be less than one volt. With shift lever in any other position, battery voltage should be present. If voltage is as specified, perform next procedure listed in DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM table.
- If voltage is not as specified, check for faulty circuit between cruise control ECU and ST fuse. If circuit is okay, replace cruise control ECU.
