Test 5, Vehicle Speed Sensor Circuit

  1. Locate speed sensor on transmission and disconnect 3-pin connector. Check for continuity between ground and speed sensor connector Brown wire terminal. If continuity does not exist, repair faulty ground or locate and repair open in wiring harness between ground and vehicle speed sensor connector. If continuity exists, go to next step.
  2. Check vehicle speed sensor. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR TEST  under COMPONENT TESTING. Replace sensor as necessary and recheck system operation. If speed sensor is okay, reconnect speed sensor connector and go to next step.
  3. Disconnect CC ECU connector. See Figure. Connect ohmmeter between ground and terminal CC ECU connector terminal No. 20 (Blue/White wire). Observe ohmmeter and rotate vehicle speed sensor shaft. Ohmmeter should fluctuate from continuity to no continuity 4 times per speedometer cable shaft revolution. If continuity is as specified, replace CC ECU and recheck system operation. If continuity is not as specified, locate and repair open or short in wiring harness between speed sensor and instrument cluster.
