Fuel Level Warning Light System

  1. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit connector. Connect a jumper wire between terminals No. 1 and 3 at fuel gauge sending unit connector. For fuel gauge sending unit connector identification, see Figure.
  2. If fuel level warning light illuminates, go to next step. If warning light does not illuminate, check bulb. If bulb is okay, check wiring harness. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  3. Remove fuel gauge sending unit. Apply battery voltage between terminals No. 2 (+) and 3 (-) of fuel gauge sending unit connector (sending unit side of connector) with a 3.4-watt test light between battery positive terminal and sending unit connector. See Fig 1.
  4. Test light should come on after a few moments. Submerge entire sending unit (or fuel level sensor portion) in a container of fuel. Test light should go out. If operation is not as specified, replace sending unit.
