With Or Without Memory

  1. Remove tilt and telescopic control module. Remove tilt position sensor with harness connector still connected. Manually turn tilt position sensor lever to fully lowered position. On vehicles without memory, measure voltage between control module connector T9, terminals No. 6 and No. 13. On vehicles with memory, measure voltage between control module connector T8, terminal No. 2 and connector T9, terminal No. 19. See Figure and Figure .
  2. On all models, manually turn tilt position sensor lever to fully raised position. Voltage should decrease as lever is moved from lowered position to raised position. If voltage is 3.5-5.5 volts with lever in fully lowered position and operation is as specified, go to TROUBLE SHOOTING  and identify next circuit to be checked. If voltage not is 3.5-5.5 volts with lever in fully lowered position or operation is not as specified, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect tilt position sensor connector. Measure resistance between tilt position sensor connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2. See Fig 1. If resistance is 3500-6500 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 3500-6500 ohms, replace tilt position sensor and recheck system.
  4. Manually turn tilt position sensor lever to fully raised position. Resistance should increase as lever is moved from fully raised to fully lowered position. Measure resistance between tilt position sensor connector terminals No. 2 and No. 3. If resistance is 3500-6500 ohms in fully lowered position and operation is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not 3500-6500 ohms in fully lowered position or operation is not as specified, replace tilt position sensor and recheck system.
  5. Check and repair wiring harness and connectors between tilt and telescopic control module and tilt position sensor connector. If wiring harness and connectors are okay, replace tilt and telescopic control module and recheck system.
