Fluid Pressure Test
NOTE:
Ensure valve on SST is in the open position.
- Disconnect the pressure feed tube from the power steering vane pump.Connect SST. See Fig 1. Connect SST 09640-10010 (09641-01010, 09641-01030, 09641-01060) over 2 new gaskets.
- Bleed power steering system. See BLEEDING under LUBRICATION.
- Start engine and run it at idle. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to boost fluid temperature.
- Check fluid pressure reading with valve closed. See Fig 2. With the engine idling, close the valve of the SST and observe the reading on the SST. The minimum fluid pressure should be 1351 psi (9316 kPa).
- Check fluid pressure reading with valve opened. With engine idling, open the valve fully.See Fig 3.Measure the fluid pressure at engine speeds of 1000 RPM and 3000 RPM. The fluid pressure difference should be 71 psi (490 kPa) or less.
- Check fluid pressure reading with steering wheel turned to full lock. See Fig 4. With the engine idling and valve opened, turn the wheel to full lock. Fluid pressure should be a Minimum of 1351 psi (9316 kPa)
- Disconnect SST. Connect the pressure feed tube.
- Refill and bleed power steering system. See BLEEDING under LUBRICATION.
NOTE:
Do not keep the valve closed for more than 10 seconds. Do not let the fluid temperature become too high.
NOTE:
Do not turn steering wheel in the following step.
NOTE:
Do not maintain lock position for more than 10 seconds. Do not let the fluid temperature become too high.
