Basic Function Test

  1. Stand about 4 feet from outside driver's door handle. Point transmitter toward vehicle. Press one transmitter button for about one second. If doors lock and unlock, system is okay. If doors do not lock and unlock, go to next step.
  2. Replace transmitter battery and repeat step  1. If keyless entry operates, system is okay. If keyless entry does not operate, go to next step.
  3. Insert key in ignition switch, then remove. Insert key again and turn ignition switch to OFF, ON and OFF positions within 5 seconds. Within next 30 seconds, turn ignition switch to OFF, ON and OFF positions 9 times. System is now in self-diagnostic mode. If taillights come on for .2 seconds, pause, then come on for .6 seconds, go to step  6. If taillights do not come on for .2 seconds, pause, then come on for .6 seconds, go to next step.
  4. Check taillights. See appropriate wiring diagram in EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. Repair taillights as necessary. If taillights are okay, connect ohmmeter between wireless door lock ECU connector terminal No. 10 (Red/Black wire) and ground. If continuity is present when key is inserted into ignition switch, go to next step. If continuity is not present when key is inserted into ignition switch, replace key unlock warning switch which is integral with ignition switch.
  5. Connect ohmmeter between wireless door lock ECU terminal No. 1 (White/Black wire) and ground. Continuity should be present. Connect voltmeter between wireless door lock ECU terminal No. 8 (Blue/Yellow wire) and ground. About 10-14 volts should be present. Connect voltmeter between wireless door lock ECU terminal No. 13 (Red/Blue wire) and ground. With ignition off, no voltage should be present. With ignition on, about 10-14 volts should be present. If voltages and continuity measurements are as specified, replace wireless door lock ECU. If voltages and continuity are not as specified, repair wiring as necessary.
  6. Press LOCK button on remote transmitter. Taillights should come on for .2 second every .6 second. Press UNLOCK button on remote transmitter. Taillights should come on for .2 second every .2 second, pause for .6 second, then repeat cycle. Press PANIC button on remote transmitter. Taillights should come on for .6 second every .6 second. If taillights operate as specified, go to next step. If taillights do not operate as specified, replace transmitter or wireless door lock ECU.
  7. If taillight operation is as specified and operating range of transmitter was okay in step 1), try a known-good wireless door lock ECU. If system is still inoperable, check wiring. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
