Test No. 17

  1. Check Transmission Operation

    Road test vehicle and check that transmission shifts properly. If transmission shifts properly, go to next step. If transmission does not shift properly, perform transmission trouble shooting. See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS article in the TRANSMISSION SERVICE & REPAIR section.

  2. Check Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Switch Wiring

    Check for defective connectors and wiring between PNP switch and instrument panel Electronic Control Unit (ECU). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . The PNP switch is located on the side of transmission and contain a Gray 10-pin electrical connector. Instrument panel ECU is located behind center of instrument panel and contains a 14-pin, 18-pin and 22-pin electrical connector. See Figure.
  3. If connectors and wiring are okay, replace instrument panel ECU. If connectors or wiring are defective, repair as necessary.
