Test No. 9

NOTE: Key unlock warning switch is turned on when ignition key is installed in ignition lock cylinder and is turned off when ignition key is removed. Instrument panel Electronic Control Unit (ECU) operates the key confinement prevention function which keeps the doors from being locked when ignition key is in the ignition lock cylinder.

  1. Check Key Unlock Warning Switch

Check operation of key unlock warning switch. See KEY UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. If key unlock warning switch operates properly, go to next step. If key unlock warning switch is defective, replace key unlock warning switch.
  2. Check Key Unlock Warning Switch Wiring

Check for defective connectors and wiring between key unlock warning switch and instrument panel ECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Instrument panel ECU is located behind center of instrument panel and contains a 14-pin, 18-pin and 22-pin electrical connector. See Figure.
  3. If connectors and wiring are okay, go to the next test listed. See appropriate TROUBLE SHOOTING SYMPTOMS table under TROUBLE SHOOTING . If connectors or wiring are defective, repair as necessary.
