NOTE: If problem is intermittent, check for faulty wiring and components by wiggling wiring harnesses and components (DO NOT vigorously wiggle relays).

Check for codes. See RETRIEVING CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If code(s) are set, perform appropriate procedure under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. If no codes are set, go to DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM table.

⁽²⁾	Perform INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT PROBLEM test.

⁽³⁾	Perform VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL (VSS) ABNORMAL test.

⁽⁴⁾	Perform STOPLIGHT SWITCH CIRCUIT PROBLEM test.

⁽⁵⁾	Perform PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION (PNP) SWITCH TEST under COMPONENT TESTS.

⁽⁶⁾	Check Engine Control Module. See CIRCUIT TESTS (PIN VOLTAGE TESTS) .

⁽⁷⁾	It is normal if the transmission is slow to resume overdrive (system is designed to operate like this). However, it should shift eventually.

⁽⁸⁾	Check diagnostic circuit between ECM and Data Link Connector (DLC). See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
