Trouble Shooting

NOTE: If problem is intermittent, check for faulty wiring and components by wiggling wiring harnesses and components (DO NOT vigorously wiggle relays).

Check for codes. See RETRIEVING CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If code(s) are set, perform appropriate procedure under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. If no codes are set, go to DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM  table.

DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM

Diagnostic Codes

Cruise Indicator Light Stays On Or Does Not Come On (2), (6)
(1) See appropriate TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS .
(2) Perform INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT PROBLEM  test.
(3) Perform VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL (VSS) ABNORMAL  test.
(4) Perform STOPLIGHT SWITCH CIRCUIT PROBLEM  test.
(5) Perform PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION (PNP) SWITCH TEST  under COMPONENT TESTS.
(6) Check Engine Control Module. See CIRCUIT TESTS (PIN VOLTAGE TESTS) .
(7) It is normal if the transmission is slow to resume overdrive (system is designed to operate like this). However, it should shift eventually.
(8) Check diagnostic circuit between ECM and Data Link Connector (DLC). See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
