Park/Neutral Position Switch Circuit

  1. Turn ignition on. Ensure "P" lights up on instrument panel when transmission is in Park. If "P" is not illuminated on instrument panel, diagnose and repair shift position indicator. See INSTRUMENT PANELS article. If "P" is illuminated on instrument panel, go to next step.
  2. Remove tilt and telescopic control module with connectors connected. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between tilt and telescopic control module connector (T9), terminal No. 6 (Black/White wire) and ground. See Figure.
  3. Voltage should be 10-14 volts with transmission in "P" position. Voltage should be less than one volt with transmission in any other position. If voltage is as specified, go to TROUBLE SHOOTING and identify next circuit to be checked. If voltage is not as specified, check for open Black/White wire between tilt and telescopic control module and park/neutral safety switch connector.
