Telescopic Position Sensor Circuit
- Remove tilt and telescopic control module with connectors connected. Remove telescopic position sensor with harness connector still connected. Manually turn telescopic position sensor lever to fully retracted position. Measure voltage between control module connector (T10), terminals No. 5 (Brown wire) and No. 6 (Yellow/Red wire). See Figure. Voltage should be less than 1 volt.
- Manually turn telescopic position sensor lever to fully extended position. Voltage should increase from less than 1 volt to 4-5 volts smoothly as lever is moved from retracted position to extended position. If voltage and operation is as specified, go to TROUBLE SHOOTING and identify next circuit to be checked. If voltage or operation is not as specified, go to next step.
- Disconnect telescopic position sensor connector. Measure resistance between telescopic position sensor connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2. See Fig 1. Resistance should be about 5000 ohms. Measure resistance between telescopic position sensor connector terminals No. 1 and No. 4. Resistance should increase from less than 1000 ohms to 4000-5000 ohms smoothly as lever is moved from retracted position to extended position. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace telescopic position sensor and recheck system.
- Check and repair wiring harness and connectors between tilt and telescopic control module and telescopic position sensor connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If wiring harness and connectors are okay, replace tilt and telescopic control module and recheck system.
