Tilt Position Sensor Circuit
- Remove tilt and telescopic control module with connectors connected. Remove tilt sensor with harness connector still connected. Manually turn tilt position sensor lever to fully lowered position. Measure voltage between control module connector (T10), terminals No. 5 (Brown wire) and No. 7 (Pink/Blue wire). See Figure. Voltage should be 4-6 volts.
- Manually turn tilt position sensor lever to fully raised position. Voltage should decrease from 4-6 volts to less than 1 volt smoothly as lever is moved from lowered position to raised position. If voltage and operation is as specified, go to TROUBLE SHOOTING and identify next circuit to be checked. If voltage or operation is not as specified, go to next step.
- Disconnect tilt and telescopic unit connector. Measure resistance between tilt and telescopic unit connector terminals No. 4 and No. 8. See Fig 1. Resistance should be 4000-5000 ohms. Measure resistance between tilt and telescopic unit connector terminals No. 5 and No. 8. Resistance should decrease from 4000-5000 ohms to less than 1000 ohms smoothly as lever is moved from lowered position to raised position. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace tilt position sensor and recheck system.
- Check and repair wiring harness and connectors between tilt and telescopic control module and tilt and telescopic unit connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If wiring harness and connectors are okay, replace tilt and telescopic control module and recheck system.
