Park/Neutral Position Switch Circuit
- Turn ignition on. Shift transmission into Park. Ensure "P" illuminates on instrument cluster. If "P" illuminates, go to next step. If "P" does not illuminate, check and repair shift position indicator circuit. See INSTRUMENT PANELS - SC300 & SC400 article.
- Turn ignition off. Remove tilt and telescopic ECU with wiring harness connector attached. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage by backprobing rear of 12-pin ECU connector T9 between terminal No. 6 (Black/White wire) and ground. See Figure. With gear shift (transmission) in Park, voltage should be 10-14 volts. With gear shift (transmission) in any other position than Park, voltage should be less than one volt. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, go to next test listed in SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS table under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Check and repair open wiring harness between tilt and telescopic ECU and park/neutral position switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
