Section 14 (Anti-Lock - W/Traction Control): Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Lexus SC 400, 2000 Lexus SC 300, 1999 Lexus SC 400, and 1999 Lexus SC 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
NOTE: This article contains information regarding ABS system equipped with the optional TRAC (traction control) system. For diagnostic information pertaining specifically to TRAC system, seeTRACTION CONTROL article.

Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) controls brake fluid pressures to each individual front and rear brake caliper during a panic stop to prevent wheel lock-up. System consists of actuator, solenoid relay, pump motor relay, Anti-Lock Brake System/Traction Control/Electronic Control Unit (ABS/TRAC ECU), and a speed sensor at each wheel. If a system fault occurs, ABS/TRAC ECU stores a self-diagnostic code(s) that can be retrieved to diagnose malfunction. Some models are equipped with an optional Traction Control (TRAC) system, which is integrated with the ABS system. See Fig 1.

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see DISC article.
