Anti-Theft Systems: Operation

Anti-theft system sets when ignition key is removed from lock cylinder and hood, rear (luggage compartment) door and side doors are closed and locked. Front side doors do not need to be locked if key is in ignition. There is a second delay while doors are locked before system is set. SECURITY indicator light will come on when all side doors, hood and rear (luggage compartment) door is closed. SECURITY indicator light is located near the clock. After 30 seconds, anti-theft system will automatically set and SECURITY indicator light will flash.

When anti-theft system is set and SECURITY indicator light is flashing, ignition key or remote transmitter for keyless entry system must be used to open any side door or rear (luggage compartment) door. If SECURITY indicator light is off, anti-theft system is inactive and any side door, hood or rear (luggage compartment) door may be opened without activating anti-theft system.

After the vehicle anti-theft system is set and the system senses any intrusion, the system will trigger and flash headlights, taillights and sound horns for one minute. The alarm will be triggered if the hood, rear (luggage compartment) door or any side door is opened without using an ignition key or remote transmitter for keyless entry system. The alarm can also be triggered if a panic signal is received from the remote transmitter for keyless entry system or if the battery is disconnected and reconnected. Anti-theft system will also lock any door not previously locked. If all doors are not locked at once, anti-theft system will repeat door locking operation every .55 second during the one minute alarm interval. After one minute, the alarm and flashing headlights and taillights will stop and SECURITY indicator light will start flashing again indicating system is reset.

Anti-theft system operation may be cancelled by turning ignition from LOCK to ON position, unlocking any side door or rear (luggage compartment) door by using ignition key or remote transmitter for keyless entry system. Anti-theft system operation may also be cancelled using the PANIC button on the remote transmitter when system is triggered by a signal from PANIC button on remote transmitter for keyless entry system.

Anti-theft system has both active arming and passive arming modes. In active arming mode, anti-theft system will set, once ignition key is removed from ignition, hood is closed, and all side doors and rear (luggage compartment) door is closed and locked by using ignition key or remote transmitter for keyless entry system. For additional information on active arming mode, see ACTIVE ARMING MODE  under SYSTEM PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLE SHOOTING. In passive arming mode, anti-theft system will set automatically once ignition key is removed from ignition, all side doors, rear (luggage compartment) door and hood are closed. Passive arming mode may be turned on or off by programming of passive arming mode. For additional information on passive arming mode, see PASSIVE ARMING MODE  under SYSTEM PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLE SHOOTING. For additional information for programming of passive arming mode, see PASSIVE ARMING MODE  under PROGRAMMING.
