Section 383 (Front Wheel Alignment): Adjustment

  1. INSPECT TIRE (SEE  WHEEL AND TIRE SYSTEM  ) 
  2. MEASURE VEHICLE HEIGHT 

    Vehicle height: 

    2AZ-FE Except SPORT: 

    2AZ-FE EXCEPT SPORT REFERENCE

    Front (A - B) 121 mm (4.76 in.)
    Rear (D - C) 55 mm (2.17 in.)

    2AZ-FE SPORT: 

    2AZ-FE SPORT REFERENCE

    Front (A - B) 123 mm (4.84 in.)
    Rear (D - C) 55 mm (2.17 in.)

    3MZ-FE Except SPORT 17 inch: 

    3MZ-FE EXCEPT SPORT 17 INCH REFERENCE

    Front (A - B) 124 mm (4.88 in.)
    Rear (D - C) 57 mm (2.24 in.)

    3MZ-FE Except SPORT 16 inch: 

    3MZ-FE EXCEPT SPORT 16 INCH REFERENCE

    Front (A - B) 124 mm (4.88 in.)
    Rear (D - C) 56 mm (2.20 in.)

    3MZ-FE SPORT: 

    3MZ-FE SPORT REFERENCE

    Front (A - B) 125 mm (4.92 in.)
    Rear (D - C) 58 mm (2.28 in.)

    Measuring points: 

    1. Ground clearance of front wheel center 
    2. Ground clearance of lower suspension arm No. 2 set bolt head center 
    3. Ground clearance of strut rod set bolt center 
    4. Ground clearance of rear wheel center 
    NOTE: Before inspecting the wheel alignment, adjust the vehicle height to the specified value. 

    HINT:

    Bounce the vehicle at the corners up and down to stabilize the suspension and inspect the vehicle height.

  3. INSPECT TOE-IN 

    Toe-in: 

    TOE-IN REFERENCE

    Toe-in (total) A + B:0° +/- 12' (0° +/- 0.2°)
    C - D: 0 +/- 2 mm (0 +/- 0.08 in.)

    HINT:

    • Measure "C - D" only when "A + B" cannot be measured.
    • If toe-in is not within the specified range, adjust it at the rack ends.

  4. ADJUST TOE-IN 
    1. Remove the rack boot set clips.
    2. Loosen the tie rod end lock nuts.
    3. Turn the right and left rack ends by an equal amount to adjust toe-in.

      HINT:

      Try to adjust toe-in to the center of the specified range.

    4. Make sure that the lengths of the right and left rack ends are the same.
    5. Torque the tie rod end lock nuts.

      Torque:  74 N.m (755 kgf.cm, 55 ft.lbf)

    6. Place the boots on the seats and install the clips.

      HINT:

      Make sure that the boots are not twisted.

    7. Perform VSC system calibration (SEE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART )

  5. INSPECT WHEEL ANGLE 
    1. Turn the steering wheel fully left and right and measure the turning angle.

    Wheel turning angle: 

    2AZ-FE Except SPORT: 

    2AZ-FE EXCEPT SPORT REFERENCE

    Inside wheel 36°49' +/- 2° (36.82° +/- 2°)
    Outside wheel: Reference 32° 10' (32.17°)

    2AZ-FE SPORT: 

    2AZ-FE SPORT REFERENCE

    Inside wheel 36°45' +/- 2° (36.75° +/- 2°)
    Outside wheel: Reference 32°08' (32.13°)

    3MZ-FE Except SPORT: 

    3MZ-FE EXCEPT SPORT REFERENCE

    Inside wheel 36°43' +/- 2° (36.72° +/- 2°)
    Outside wheel: Reference 32°07' (32.12°)

    3MZ-FE SPORT: 

    3MZ-FE SPORT REFERENCE

    Inside wheel 36°41' +/- 2° (36.68° +/- 2°)
    Outside wheel: Reference 32°06' (32.10°)

    If the right and left inside wheel angles differ from the specified range, check and adjust the right and left rack end lengths.

  6. INSPECT CAMBER, CASTER AND STEERING AXIS INCLINATION 
    1. Put the front wheel on the center of the alignment tester.
    2. Install the camber-caster-kingpin gauge at the center of the axle hub or drive shaft.
    3. Inspect the camber, caster and steering axis inclination.

    Camber, caster and steering axis inclination: 

    2AZ-FE Except SPORT: 

    2AZ-FE EXCEPT SPORT REFERENCE

    Camber Right-left error -0°44' +/- 45' (-0.73° +/- 0.75°) 45'(0.75°) or less
    Caster Right-left error 2°54' +/- 45' (2.90° +/- 0.75°) 45' (0.75+/-) or less
    Steering axis inclination Right-left error 11°28' +/- 45' (11.47° +/- 0.75°) 45'(0.75°) or less

    2AZ-FE SPORT: 

    2AZ-FE SPORT REFERENCE

    Camber Right-left error -0°46' +/- 45' (-0.77° +/- 0.75°) 45'(0.75°) or less
    Caster Right-left error 2°56' +/- 45' (2.93° +/- 0.75°) 45' (0.75°) or less
    Steering axis inclination Right-left error 11°30' +/- 45' (11.50° +/- 0.75°) 45'(0.75°) or less

    3MZ-FE Except SPORT: 

    3MZ-FE EXCEPT SPORT REFERENCE

    Camber Right-left error -0°45' +/- 45' (-0.75° +/- 0.75°) 45' (0.75°) or less
    Caster Right-left error 2°50' +/- 45' (2.83° +/- 0.75°) 45' (0.75°) or less
    Steering axis inclination Right-left error 11°31' +/- 45' (11.52° +/- 0.75°) 45'(0.75°) or less

    3MZ-FE SPORT: 

    3MZ-FE SPORT REFERENCE

    Camber Right-left error -0°46' +/- 45' (-0.77° +/- 0.75°) 45' (0.75°) or less
    Caster Right-left error 2°53' +/- 45' (2.88° +/- 0.75°) 45' (0.75°) or less
    Steering axis inclination Right-left error 11°33' +/- 45' (11.55° +/- 0.75°) 45' (0.75°) or less

    Check the suspension parts for damaged and/or worn out parts if the caster and steering axis inclination are not within the specified range after the camber has been correctly adjusted.

  7. ADJUST CAMBER 
    NOTE: Inspect toe-in after the camber has been adjusted. 
    1. Remove the front wheel.
    2. Remove the 2 nuts on the lower side of the shock absorber.
    3. Clean the installation surfaces of the shock absorber and the steering knuckle.
    4. Temporarily install the 2 nuts.

    5. Full push or pull the front axle hub in the direction of the required adjustment.
    6. Tighten the nuts.

      Torque:  210 N.m (2,140 kgf.cm, 155 ft.lbf)

      NOTE: Keep the bolts from rotating and torque the nuts when installing the nuts. 
    7. Install the front wheel.

      Torque:  103 N.m (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft.lbf)

    8. Check the camber.

      If the measured value is not within the specification, calculate the required adjustment amount using the formula below.

      (Camber adjustment amount) = Specified range medium - measured value

      Check installed bolts combination. Select appropriate bolts from the table below to adjust the camber to within the specified range.

      CAMBER ADJUSTING REFERENCE

      Move the axle toward (+) in step  e) Refer to 2AZ-FE EXCEPT SPORT REFERENCE  (Move the axle toward positive side)
      Move the axle toward (-) in step  e) Refer to 2AZ-FE SPORT REFERENCE  (Move the axle toward negative side)

      The body and suspension may be damaged if the camber is not correctly adjusted according to the above table.

      NOTE: Replace the nut with a new one when replacing the bolt. 
    9. Repeat the steps mentioned above. At step ( b), replace 1 or 2 selected bolts.

      HINT:

      Replace one bolt at a time when replacing 2 bolts.
