Commutator End Frame Assembly Test

  1. Using vernier calipers, measure the brush length. See Fig 1. Verify length is within specification. See STARTER SPECIFICATIONS . If the length is less than minimum, replace the starter commutator end frame assembly.
  2. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between the positive and negative brush holders. See Fig 2. Verify resistance is within specification. See STARTER SPECIFICATIONS . If resistance is not within specification, repair or replace the starter commutator end frame assembly.
