Park/Neutral Position Switch: Installation

  1. Install PNP switch assembly using the following steps:
    1. Install PNP switch to manual valve shaft.
    2. Temporarily install 2 bolts.
    3. Place lock plate and tighten nut. See Fig 3. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    4. Temporarily install shift lever.
    5. Turn lever counterclockwise until it stops, then turn it clockwise 2 notches. See Figure.
    6. Remove shift lever.
    7. Align groove with neutral basic line. See Fig 4.
    8. Hold switch in position and tighten 2 bolts. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    9. Use screwdriver to stake nut with lock plate.
    10. Install shift lever, washer and nut. See Fig 2.
    11. Connect PNP switch connector.
  2. Install shift cable assembly using the following steps:
    1. Temporarily install shift cable to shift lever with NEW nut. See Figure.
    2. Install shift cable and a NEW clip to bracket. See Fig 1.
  3. Adjust shift lever position. See SHIFT CABLE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  4. Inspect shift lever position. See SHIFT CABLE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  5. Inspect PNP switch assembly. See PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  6. Install engine under cover No. 2.
  7. Install air intake resonator sub-assembly.
  8. Install air cleaner hose No. 1.
  9. Install air cleaner assembly.
  10. Install battery.
