Shift Lever

  1. Inspect shift lever position using the following steps:
    1. When shifting from "P" to "R" position only with ignition switch ON and brake pedal depressed, make sure that gearshift lever moves smoothly and can be moderately operated.
    2. When starting engine, ensure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting from "N" to "D" position and moves rearward when shifting to "R" position.
  2. If adjustment is required, proceed to adjust shift lever position using the following steps:
    1. Loosen nut on gearshift lever. See Fig 1.
    2. Set gearshift lever to "N" position by pushing shift lever fully downward then, return shift lever 2 notches to "N" position and temporarily install shift cable. See Fig 2.
NOTE: Move shift cable as little as possible when tightening.
    3. Push shift cable end into rear side of vehicle and then tighten shift cable to specified torque. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    4. Put shift lever to "N" position, and check that shifting to "D" position has less looseness than shifting to "P" position.
