Lower Control Arm: Installation

  1. Install shock absorber lower bracket to No. 1 lower control arm. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. Install No. 1 lower control arm to suspension member with cam bolt, cam plate, washer and nut. After stabilizing suspension, align matchmarks on cam plate and suspension member. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Install lower ball joint to No. 1 lower control arm with nut. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install a NEW cotter pin. If the holes for cotter pin are not aligned, tighten nut further, up to 60 degrees.
  4. Connect steering gear assembly. Be careful not to damage return tube and pressure feed tube. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Connect shock absorber to front shock absorber bracket. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Install stabilizer bar link with nut "A" and nut "B". See Fig 1. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . If ball joint turns with nut, use a hexagon wrench to hold stud.
  7. NOTE: Be careful not to break link fixing pin until procedure is completed. However, sensor arm rotation angle shall not exceed a range of plus or minus 70 degrees from standard vehicle height.
  8. Set lower arm to vehicle height. Install sensor link to lower arm bracket with nut. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Connect tie rod end to lower ball joint with nut. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install a NEW clip. If the holes for clip are not aligned, tighten nut further up to 60 degrees.
  10. Install disc, brake caliper and bolts. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  11. Install No. 2 lower control arm to No. 1 lower control arm. After stabilizing suspension, tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  12. Install front suspension member brace. Install bolt "A" through No. 2 lower control arm. See Fig 2. Tighten bolt B to specification. After stabilizing suspension, tighten bolt A to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  13. Install engine under covers.
  14. Install front wheel and tighten lug nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  15. Depress brake pedal several times.
  16. Check wheel alignment. See appropriate SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
